10 Home Improvement Projects to Complete While Social Distancing
Spring is typically a great time to list your home. (If you want to check out the pros and cons of listing your home during the COVID-19 outbreak, check out our blog here.) However, if you weren’t planning on selling your home this spring but are stuck inside and realizing there’s some updates you’ve neglected or that a paint color is really driving you crazy, we put together 10 home improvement projects to complete while you're social distancing. If you complete any of these, we’d love to see some before and after photos - be sure to tag us on Facebook or Instagram!
Outdoor Projects
1. Paver patio
The weather is warming up and you’re probably looking for somewhere that you can go to soak up the sun. If you have enough space in your backyard, a paver patio is a lot cheaper and easier than building a deck but still offers a nice space to relax in outside.
2. Outdoor garden
If you have kids, this could be a fun project for them too! Brighten up your space and plant some flowers and plants to create an outdoor haven that you can escape to.
3. Refresh your driveway
Now is the perfect time to update your driveway. Depending on the condition and how much money you want to spend, you can resurface it or just power-wash it to clean it off. You may also want to add stamped concrete to create an elegant touch.
4. Upgrade your garage door or front door
If your garage is looking a little dull, you can stain the finish to freshen up the look. You may want to consider giving your front door a fresh paint job too. These projects are great if you’re thinking about selling your home soon as they will boost your curb appeal for potential buyers.
Decor Projects
5. Paint your walls
Since you can’t go out and “paint the town” why not paint your walls? Whether this is something you’ve been meaning to to get around to or now that you’ve been staring at that awful shade of green in your living room for a few weeks, this is a great time to refresh your walls! Choose a new color that's light and airy to help brighten up your space and make it more homey.
6. Update photos
If you have a gallery wall (or have been meaning to hang up some pictures for a while), now is the perfect time to start this project. Change out the photos in your existing frames or rearrange them to change up your space. We love to get inspiration for this on Pinterest.
Kitchen Projects
7. Kitchen cabinet refresh
Depending on the state of your cabinets, you can paint them to give a fresh look. White and grey are two great choices right now when it comes to kitchen trends.
8. Knobs & pulls
This very simple and inexpensive project can give your kitchen a completely new look. If your knobs are standard or pretty old, look into getting new ones online that you can easily install yourself.
Lighting Projects
9. Dim the lights
This project is super simple but again, can make a huge difference. Here are some options you can look at and order online (so you don’t even have to leave the house!)
10. Light fixtures, bulbs & shades
If you haven’t changed any lighting fixtures since you moved in, chances are everything is pretty standard and outdated. Take this opportunity to add more decorative light fixtures to your home or change out your lamp shades to a more updated style.
